National Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers records, supplement 2, 1894-1984.

This supplement consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, financial records, photographs, and other documents received from the National Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers, which subsequently came to be called the United Neighborhood Centers of America. This collection documents especially well myriad programs for youth and single parents and minorities sponsored by the federal government and carried out by a number of social welfare groups such as NFSNC. Such detailed documentation represents the increased role of the federal government in the United States of the 1960s and early 1970s, as well as the concerns for minorities and other oppressed peoples active in the civil rights movement. Also well represented by this collection is the work of the International Federation of Settlements and the NFSNC Social Education and Action Committee. Fund-raising and budget records reflect the financial difficulties that the organization faced, particular during and after the 1960s. This supplement contains a rich collection of the National Federation's reference materials, a very detailed set of master archives, as well as complete collections of mailings and numerous historical artifacts.
